Your Lifestyle® system offers the option of listening in 2-, 3- or 5-speaker mode. For most video material (mono, stereo or surround), listening in 3- or 5-speaker mode helps anchor the dialogue to the picture while providing a fuller sound. For AM/FM, CD, TAPE and AUX, listening is best in STEREO (2-speaker) mode. You can change to the speaker mode that sounds best to you for each particular program.
On the remote, there are 3 different speaker modes to choose from:
press surround to select all 5 speakers. you can listen to any program material in surround mode, whether the program is surround-encoded, stereo or monaural. you will not hear sound from all 5 speakers all of the time. even with surround-encoded material there are times when no sounds are directed to the surround speakers. when you press video, the system automatically selects surround mode
press stereo-center to select the front left, center and right speakers. selecting this mode is best when watching programs not broadcast in surround, such as the news or daily programing
press stereo to select the front left and right speakers. selecting am/fm, cd, aux or tape will put the system in stereo mode
